"TRUST IN THE LORD THY GOD"

“Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world: Both low and high, rich and poor, together.  My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.  I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.  Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?  They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth forever) that he should still live forever , and not see corruption.  For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.  Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue forever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.  Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.  This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings.  Selah.  Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.   But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me.  Selah.  Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.  Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.  He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.  Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.”  (Psalm 49)

How foolish it is for one to put his trust in riches.  As the Psalmist writes: “for when he dies he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.”   Thus, it is of NO value that one would waste his energy and faith chasing after those things that are temporary, while rejecting those things that are eternal.  For even if he manage to catch that which he chase, and appear to have much outwardly, inwardly he would be poor and miserable, and left with nothing of true value.   But, if that which he chase after are things of the Spirit, and he lays hold of such, he will indeed have GREAT abundance even after he cease to exist in the land of the “physical living”, for such wealth he would have for an eternity.   Therefore, as the Apostle Paul wrote in the book of 1st Tim “Charge them that are rich in this world that they be not highminded, NOR trust in UNCERTAIN riches, but in the LIVING GOD, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.” (1st Tim 6:17)  Put your “Trust in The Lord Thy God” What he gives is ETERNAL, silver and gold are temporal.

Psalms 49 is a call to all for understanding, to use wisdom when it comes to the desire for wealth for it is vain to place one’s trust in such.   Great material gain is worthless to one when he cease from living, but spiritual gain is EVERYTHING in this life, AND in the life to come.

The message of “prosperity” in the most popular message delivered from the pulpit today to the body of Christ.  What is troublesome about this message is that it is so over emphasized, that it takes the focus OFF the seeking of “Spiritual wealth” and places it onto the seeking of  “Material wealth” where the hearts of brethren begin to delight in those things that are temporary, seemingly having no desire to seek for the things that are eternal.  There is nothing wrong with trusting in the Lord to supply our “NEEDS” for this we should do as his word declares that he will supply ALL our needs according to his riches in Glory by Christ Jesus.  However, there is a big difference between a “need” and a “want”.  The word does NOT declare that he would supply all our WANTS, but that he would supply all our needs and he knows our needs according to scripture, even before we ask so our focus shouldn’t even be on our “needs” but on the one who supplies the “needs”.    Now, if our desired wants are those things that would fulfill the lust of our flesh, we can expect no such blessing from God for his primary concern is our spiritual welfare and if there be anything that would come between our relationship with him, it will not be given BY him.  It may be obtain through another source, but not through him.  The word of God declares: “Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.  Ye ask, and receive NOT, because YOU ASK AMISS, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.  Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God?  Whosoever therefore will be a friend to the world is the enemy of God.”  (James 4:2-4)  To ask amiss is to pray for the wrong things.  Instead of praying for God’s will, one prays for “things” that would fulfill the lust of the flesh and often one of the reasons the Lord will not answer such a prayer, is that to receive it would be of no spiritual benefit to the individual and thus may pull him further from The Father.  God distributes great wealth upon his children for the sole purpose of that wealth being used to not only take care of his/her NEEDS, but to be a blessing to other brethren in NEED.  This is His will, and he will not respond contrary to it even if one prays fervently.  If the desire is rooted from greed and selfishness, he can expect NOT to receive an answer from the Lord.  For this reason many attempt to fulfill this kind prayer on their own, through trickery, deceit, and following after the example of the world only to turn around and call the wealth they’ve received, a “blessing” from God when in essence it was gain by the works of the flesh.

It is biblically incorrect for an overseer to implant in the hearts and minds of brethren the desire for great wealth as not all will be blessed with such.  The Lord will   only impart such a blessing upon those who are spiritually MATURE to handle it and fulfill HIS will, seeking not their own.  Those who are faithful in little will be faithful in much.   If one can take the little they have and be a blessing to one in need, such a person can be trusted by The Lord to receive much for they will do the same as done with the little.  A spiritually mature believer has his heart set on the things of God, NOT the things of this world.  Thus, when we he is given a great gift from the Lord, he can be trusted to know how to use it for God’s Glory.  Not all within the body of Christ will be wealthy, else the Lord would not have declared that the “poor you will always have with you.”  And why are the poor among us?  They are here that he may fulfill his promise in supplying their NEEDS through the giving of those whom he’s blessed with great wealth.  Thus, he is glorified through the proper distribution of the blessing.  But, if one is wealthy and place all his trust in his riches fulfilling the desires of his flesh while withholding from the poor, how then is the Lord glorified?

The thing we must remember and understand as believers and followers of the lord Jesus Christ is true prosperity begins inwardly (Beloved above all things I wish that ye prosper and be in good health EVEN AS THY SOUL PROSPERTH), thus we should be focused more on spiritual things, rather than the things of this world.  Our love and trust should be in the Lord, and not in the seeking of material riches and wealth.  The scriptures tell us this: “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have ERRED from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1st Tim 6:10)  Money in and of itself is not evil, but the LOVE of money is the root of evil as it may cause many believers to stray from the faith as they become servants to IT, rather than servants of God.   A life that is FOCUSED on material rather than spiritual things, produces only pain and sorrow.  Remember that He will  indeed take care of your needs, thus you needn’t concern yourself with wants.  Let not your heart become consumed with the trust of riches, but place your “Trust in The Lord thy  God.”

I love you all so very much. Have a blessed week in the Lord and remember: Whatever we do, do ALL for the GLORY of GOD, who ALONE is worthy of the GLORY and the PRAISE!

The Lord be with you this day and always!  Shalom Uvracha (Peace and Blessings)……..
