"THE IMPORTANCE OF TRUE COMMUNION"

“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That The Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.  After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the New Testament in my blood: this do ye as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.  For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.  Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.  For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh DAMNATION TO HIMSELF, NOT DISCERNING THE LORD’S BODY.  For this cause many are WEAK and SICKLY among you , and many SLEEP.   For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.  But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.   Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.  And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together under condemnation.”  (1st Cor 11:23-34)

In this weeks message we will focus on “The importance of TRUE communion”, not just the importance of “communion”, but of TRUE COMMUNION!  For TRUE COMMUNION is not some ritualistic act of taking a wafer upon one’s tongue and sipping a vial of juice only to return back to warming the pew without any understanding of what has just taken place.  It is a very SERIOUS and INTIMATE time with our Beloved Savior, a time of acknowledgement and of giving thanks for the BODY that offers healing, and the BLOOD that offers redemption.  True Communion IS true INTIMACY, an act of sharing, of giving and receiving.  Through communion we share of ourselves to the Lord, we give of ourselves to the Lord, and we receive that which he desires to give and it’s all about Him and the believer who intimately acknowledges him.  It’s not about the dry wafer, but what the wafer SPIRITUALLY represents…HIS BODY!  It’s not about the vial of juice but what the juice SPIRITUALLY represents….HIS BLOOD!  Through ritual communion, the focus tends to be on the wafer and the vial of juice and NOT the POWER of the BODY and the BLOOD.  One may say they understand that when they accept the wafer, they are acknowledging Christ’s body, and when they accept the vial of juice, they are acknowledging Christ’s blood and this may be so intellectually in the mind of the receiver, but is the SPIRITUAL acknowledgment and understanding present in the HEART of the believer that receives?  There is a difference between simply knowing the facts in the mind, verses UNDERSTANDING the Truth in one’s heart.  Is there intimacy with The Lord Jesus during your partaking?  Do you understand spiritually (not intellectually) what you are doing and why?  If an unbeliever were to ask you why you feel it is important to participate in communion, would you be able to explain to him/her the reasons in such a way that it would cause the unbeliever to have a more clearer understanding and respect for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?  Or, would you begin stumbling in words because you yourself have not the answer, and simply declare to him/her that it’s part of your “church” services, a part of your “denominational” beliefs leaving the unbeliever with still no understanding about the “Bread”, and the “Cup”.   If you lack the spiritual understanding of True Communion, and yet still partake in communion, then you have received the bread and the cup in an unworthy manner!  Sometimes one can get caught up in the RITUAL and LOSE the TRUE MEANING!   For if anyone eat of the bread and drink of the cup WITHOUT spiritual discernment in not giving TRUE HONOR  to the Body and the Blood, such do DISHONOR THE LORD and brings upon his/herself damnation.

A lack of spiritual understanding is one example of how a believer would receive the Lord’s communion in an unworthy manner, and Paul here in the book of 1st Cor. Gives another example of how one receives the bread and cup in an unworthy manner when he addresses the brethren there in Corinth.  As there were some that were actually partaking of the Lord’s supper out of mere hunger for food for the stomach having no concern for The Lord Jesus, nor respect for the other brethren. In the earlier church, Christian believers would gather together in one place and as an act of worship, would come together at the table in UNITY to eat what was called “The Lord’s Supper”.  During this time, they would give Honor, acknowledgement and thanksgiving to the Lord for His Body, and for His Blood in looking back on His death, and looking forward to his coming again (“For as often as ye eat of this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come”) But, rather than coming together to utilize this blessed time in reflecting upon Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, these believers at Corinth, instead utilized the time to over indulge in such a way that there would be nothing left for others.  This sort of behavior was not only disrespectful to the other brethren, but most definitely was disrespectful towards our Lord.  Paul warns that each individual should examine his/herself BEFORE participation of communion, for if such would do so and correct his/herself, he or she would then need not to be corrected and/or chastised by the Lord.  However if unwilling to do so, damnation falls upon that believer.   Because of the lack of honor to The Lord through Communion, many have become weak, sick and some have even died untimely and unnecessary deaths.

EACH  time the bread is broken, our Lords body MUST be remembered and HONORED for it is that BODY which brings us Healing.  For that precious body carried EVERY known sickness, EVERY known disease, EVERY pain, EVERY discomfort known to man, and with EACH BLOW OF THE WHIP by the horrific flogging given to him, REMOVED the claim by the enemy of sickness and disease from EVERY believer that WE may be made whole.  His Body was broken and bruised that WE may be healed.  Whenever the bread is broken, REMEMBER the broken body of Our Lord Jesus who was beaten beyond recognition, broken and bruised NOT because of any sins he himself committed, but because of OUR SINS!  He suffered for YOU, He suffered for ME, He suffered for the SINS OF THE WORLD!   NEVER break the bread without HONORING the BODY.  “And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said ‘Take, eat: this IS my BODY which is BROKEN FOR YOU: this do in REMEMBRANCE OF ME.”

EACH time we drink of the cup, our Lords shed blood MUST be remembered and HONORED for it is the BLOOD that has given us LIFE!  Without the shedding of the blood there could be NO remission of sin.  For with every ounce of blood that flowed from him, every known sin by man was COVERED by the Blood.   For ALL who would acknowledge and receive, REPENT and SURRENDER, his/her sins were forever WASHED and CLEANSED by the Blood of the Lamb of God!  No sins to be remembered by the Father, BECAUSE of the BLOOD of the SON….  WHILE THE BLOOD FELL…, murder was being forgiven; adultery was being forgiven; fornication was being forgiven; Incest was being forgiven; prostitution was being forgiven; addictions were being forgiven; homosexuality was being forgiven; the robber was being forgiven; the liar was being forgiven; EVERY SIN THAT WE HAVE COMMITTED was being forgiven and blotted out, WHILE THE BLOOD FELL FROM THE PRECIOUS LAMB OF GOD……   MORE than bread, MORE than juice, The Body and The Blood IS LIFE!  “After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, “This cup is the New Testament in MY BLOOD: this do ye as OFT as ye DRINK IT, IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.”

“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also SUFFERED FOR US, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:  WHO DID NO SIN, neither was guile found in his mouth:  Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:  Who His own self bare OUR SINS in HIS OWN BODY on the tree, that we being dead to sins, SHOULD LIVE UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS: by whose STRIPES ye WERE HEALED” (1st Pet 2:21-24)

It is my hope that EVERY believer understands “The Importance of TRUE COMMUNION”, and HONOR the Lord DAILY through communion.  Since it is a form of intimacy with the Lord, a form of thanksgiving and of reflection upon HIM, His death, burial, resurrection and SOON COMING AGAIN, this (True Communion) is something that should be done not just at appointed times of the year, but the remembrance of Our Lord through communion should be done EVERY DAY in the life of EVERY BELIEVER till HE COMES!

Therefore, partake of the Lord’s Supper with ALL humbleness and THANKSGIVING, ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND HONOR remembering always the sacrifice HE MADE, for US!   Because of the Body and the Blood, there is now HOPE for every man and every woman.  THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord, there is now reconciliation to the Father, redemption of sins, healing for the body and soul, and the precious gift of Eternal Life offered to ALL who would repent and receive.

Now we know “The IMPORTANCE of TRUE COMMUNION”…… Let us PRACTICE IT……DAILY!!      DAILY!!!!!

The Lord be with you this day and always….
