"THE IMPORTANCE OF REPENTANCE "

While meditating on this message today, I could not help but feel saddened and alarmed over those who profess to love the Lord and his sheep both lost and found and yet consistently preach and teach everything else concerning the Word of God, EXCEPT “The Importance of Repentance.”  Such even go as far as to argue and dispute with those who are commissioned by the Lord to declare this Truth, and while they believe they are “protecting” the Lord’s flock from “discouragement” and “despair” of such messages, they are in truth HARMING his flock in feeding them false security by allowing them to believe they can continue in wickedness and sin and all will be well with The Lord.  They tell them that all sins are forgiven past, present and future, DESPITE the absence of repentance.   Those who teach such doctrine shall be judged by the Lord for they are preventing His sheep from entering into the fullness of The Lord.  They must one day stand before the Lord and explain their reasoning for neglecting the teaching on the importance of repentance.  As for myself, I judge neither man nor woman, but know that I shall be judged by the Lord thus I MUST preach and teach HIS word in its entirety, EVEN the portions that provoke man to anger.   Because of my LOVE for our beloved Savior, and my LOVE for his people, I shall not refrain from speaking forth the Truth of His word as it is my hearts desire that we be ONE, even as the Father and Son are One and that the Lord may look upon his church with joy seeing a SPOTLESS bride and not a SOILED and UNCLEAN one.  To withhold the TRUTH, would indicate a lack of love for you and for your soul and thus do the enemy’s bidding for he has been a liar since the beginning and use man to pervert and twist the gospel to please the flesh while the spirit remains unlearned.  While many would dare to teach “half-truths” that they may continue to be praised and loved by man, I MUST teach the WHOLE TRUTH as I have no desire for followers after me (for I am NOTHING without HIM) but do desire as many as would come to be FOLLOWERS OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!   To be HIS follower one must deny himself, and as the Lord declared, take up thy cross and daily follow Him.

Many do not like to hear the message of repentance.  They would rather shut their ears and remain bound, than to open their hearts and be set free.  If the message arouses anger in you, then it is evident you love your sin MORE than you love the Lord, and your anger demonstrates your rejection of the Holy Spirits conviction.  For the Holy Spirit convicts us of our wrong doings (IF we are in Christ Jesus), thus to respond in anger is to reject His help.  It is saying to The Lord that you have no desire to let go of the sins in your life and would rather not be reminded of them.  God in His mercy will not force change upon you, this is something you yourself must surrender to, but know that deliberate, knowingly, willful sin, will NOT go unpunished.  It simply will not, no matter what you’ve been taught or have learned through the false teaching and doctrines of man.  No one can prevent another from following after a lie, but can only EXPOSE it as such and it is up to the one who hears to choose.  The spiritually blind shall lead the blind and all will fall into a ditch, but one who hears the truth and RECEIVES it, shall live!

Now, many confuse the message of repentance believing it to be a doctrine of “works” unto salvation.  This is foolishness and such who believe are of the spiritually unlearned.  For it has already been declared in scripture that salvation CANNOT be earned but is a GIFT from God THROUGH FAITH in His Son Jesus Christ our Lord.   Repentance is not works, but is a form of transformation of turning AWAY from the things we once indulged in which was displeasing to the Lord, towards a NEW LIFE IN CHRIST.  Again, repentance is a TURNING AWAY FROM, not a turning TO the sins we once knew.  It is to reject those things we know that are displeasing to The Lord, and to surrender in the giving of ourselves to those things we know ARE pleasing to Him.  As the apostle Paul wrote in the book of Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, BRETHREN, by the mercies of God, that ye present YOUR BODIES as a living sacrifice, HOLY, ACCEPTABLE unto GOD, which is YOUR reasonable service.”  Let’s stop here for a moment and examine this one passage before continuing onward as most “believers” tend the think the message of repentance is ONLY for those outside of the body of Christ, those who know not the Lord.  But, Paul has written this message and in fact every Epistle NOT to those who know not the Lord, but to those who profess to KNOW Him.  He tells BELIEVERS and not unbelievers to “present their bodies as a living sacrifice” meaning that we should use our bodies in a manner of service and obedience unto The Lord.  Now, this is not a form of works, but a form of surrender of giving oneself completely over to The Lord for HIS purpose and not ours.  He (Paul) goes on to say: “Holy, Acceptable unto God” Holy meaning being set apart for The Lord’s glorious usage, and acceptable meaning to be pleasing.  Neither of this could be possible if we choose to hold on to our sins.   Then Paul goes on to say to BELIEVERS in verse 2: “And be NOT conformed to this world: but be ye TRANSFORMED by the RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of GOD.”  Now, here’s where we begin to allow the Holy Spirit THROUGH OUR SURRENDER, to begin the change in us.  In our thinking and in our actions, in our words and in our deeds.  Transformation begins when we LET GO!  Let go of our old way of thinking, and our old way of living and begin living for Christ.   As long as we hold on to the old, there cannot be a “new” for how can new exist when the old is still present.  One takes precedent over the other and as a follower of The Lord both cannot be present as the old will stunt the growth of the new.  Therefore, daily those who are in Christ Jesus are by The Holy Spirit being transformed into the image of Christ.  We can reject this transformation by choosing to remain in our sins, and by refusal to repent of our sins we are no better off than what we once were.  In fact, those who reject repentance are worse off than before as now, such would have the “knowledge” of Christ but still living lives conformed to the standards and evil of this world which would be equally as spiritually deadly as would be one who never knew Christ.

The Apostle Paul wrote: “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: and that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto HIM which died for them, and rose again. (2 Cor 5:14-15)  Therefore, we are now dead to the sins of our old lives, they should no longer be in existence for those who are in Christ Jesus.  Now, we are living not for the pleasure of our wicked flesh as we once did BEFORE the knowledge of Christ, but are living for HIM.  This is accomplished through our repentance of the old, and surrendering to the Holy Spirit to perfect the new.   “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: OLD THINGS ARE PASSED AWAY; behold, ALL things are become new.” (2 Cor 5:17)  The new cannot take place until the old is passed, and the old passes when one is in Christ, and for one to be in Christ, one must repent and surrender to HIM.

Let us remember that The Apostle Paul wrote his Epistles to the church (believers) NOT unbelievers, thus what has been spoken applies to those who believe on The Lord Jesus Christ.  And, he said regarding grace and sin “What shall we say then?  Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? GOD FORBID.  How shall we, that are DEAD to sin, live any longer therein?  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:  Knowing this, that our OLD MAN IS CRUCIFIED with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth WE SHOULD NOT SERVE SIN.  FOR HE THAT IS DEAD IS FREED FROM SIN.” (Rom 6:1-7) And again our brother wrote: “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Let NOT sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.  NEITHER yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin; but yield yourselves UNTO GOD, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.  What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace?  GOD FORBID.  Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”

(Rom 6:11-16)  Therefore we must take heed not to misuse the grace of our Lord, through continual sin and rebellion for remember these last words….”For we must ALL appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that EVERYONE may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, WHETHER IT BE GOOD OR BAD. (2 Cor 5:10)
