I AM THE LORD

“And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, “I AM THE LORD”: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Issac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.  And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.   And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.  Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, “I AM THE LORD”, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:  And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.  And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: “I AM THE LORD.”   (Ex 6:2-8)

The patriarchs, the great men of old, had all at one time established a form of a relationship with God.  Throughout the scriptures we are able to read story after story of the many interactions between God and his creation “man”, and man’s ability and/or inability to be obedient to Him.  When we look back on men such as Noah, Abraham, Issac, Jacob and the like, we can distinguish their relationship with God as being that of Faith and Obedience.  He was to them their GOD, the CREATOR of Heaven and Earth and ALL that is within, The Supreme Being, ABOVE ALL, and this He IS still.  Beginning with Noah who was instructed by God to build the ark before the flood, he heard the voice of the Lord and without question heeded to his command.   The same with Abraham whose faith on numerous occasions was tested and he past the test each time.  All these men had “known of” God, and had many great experiences with Him.  They were privy to all his goodness, grace and mercy.  They heard his voice, heeded to his commands and walked righteously before Him.  Yet in all this, NONE knew God in an INTIMATE way until Moses.  As the Lord declared in the scripture reference above “And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Issac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by MY NAME Jehovah (Yahweh) was I not known to them”.  This does not mean that Abraham, Issac and Jacob had no knowledge of the name “Yahweh” as they indeed did, however, the divine significance of the name had not been made manifest to them.  Thus, they knew him as God Almighty (El Shaddai), One of Power and Might, but Moses knew him as not only The Almighty, but also “The Lord” (Yahweh).

When The Lord God presented himself to the men of old, he presented himself as  “The Creator, Most High, Almighty, Holy One, Eternal God, Living God, Mighty God, God of Hosts, etc.and HE STILL IS.  However when he presented himself to Moses, he declared Himself to be: “I AM, WHO I AM”………. “I AM your Father, I AM your Mother, I AM your Sister, I AM your Brother, I AM your Friend, I AM the Lover of your Soul, I AM your Husband, I AM your Teacher, I AM your Creator, I AM your provider, I AM your Healer, I AM EVERYTHING YOU DESIRE AND EVERYTHING YOU NEED…..I AM THE LORD  I AM YAHWEH and this is how Moses KNEW Him.  For the God of his fathers, the God of Abraham and of Issac and Jacob had now been revealed to him as The Great “I AM”,   a friend when he was friendless, a Father when he was fatherless, a Teacher when he was unlearned, a Lover of his very soul.  Moses’ intimate relationship with The Lord was such that he was deemed a “friend” of God’s as the word declares the Lord spoke to him as He would to a friend: “And the LORD spake unto Moses FACE TO FACE, as a man speaketh unto his friend.” (Ex 33:11)  None other had this revelation of intimacy with The Lord prior to Moses, yet this is how the Lord desires ALL to know Him.

God created man with the desire for intimate fellowship.  No father delights when a child has forgotten him, when he/she matures and moves on seeking no fellowship nor friendship with him.  A father who genuinely loves his child will ALWAYS desire a bonding relationship with him even when the child becomes of age.  So it is with “Yahweh”, with The Lord as he desire an ONGOING intimate relationship with his children.  He is MORE delighted by one with genuine affection, love and desired intimacy, than one who’s a “creature of habit”, driven by “religious rituals”.  For one driven by a desire for intimacy seeks the Lord’s face, and thus finds it.  While one who’s driven by habit, seeks to fulfill the “ritual” and lose the hope of seeing the Glory of God.  When we seek intimacy with The Lord, he will then reveal himself in his completeness as we will begin to see him for ALL that He IS.  He becomes EVERYTHING that we once sought out in this world, but could never find.   He becomes our solution to problems; our hope in hopelessness; our joy in the midst of sorrow; our peace in the presence of a storm; our Father; our Loyal and devoted friend; our avenger; our deliverer; IN HIM LIES EVERYTHING WE DESIRE AND NEED.  It is declared in his word “He who seeks shall find” thus those who seek the face of the Lord, those who seek to KNOW Him AS LORD shall indeed find.

Moses was one who chased after The Lord, DESIRED to see his Glory, cried out for His presence and The Lord fulfilled the desires of His heart for this to was the desire of The Lord and Moses had discovered what aroused the Lord’s delight….INTIMACY!   This revelation was made manifest to Moses, to the children of Israel and to ALL who would seek not just to know Him as “The God of our Fathers”, but to KNOW Him as “Yahweh”.  As He has declared “I AM THE LORD”

I Love you all so very much.  Have a blessed week in the Lord and remember:  Whatever we do, do ALL for the GLORY of GOD, who ALONE is worthy of the GLORY and the PRAISE!

The Lord be with you this day and always!  Shalom Uvracha (Peace and Blessings)
