"GREAT WEALTH OF THE HEART"

“And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.  And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?  And he sad unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life  consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.  And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?  And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.  And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.  But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then worse shall those things be, which thou hast provided?  So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God  (Luke 12:13-21)

How foolish it is for one to put their trust in the riches and wealth of this world, and seek not to desire “Great Wealth of the Heart.”  As the Lord explains in this parable, such are fools for tomorrow is not promised to anyone.  Here was a man who possessed much, and yet his hearts desire was to gain more.  He had obtained so much wealth that he had no room to store it, thus his plans were to build a greater storehouse for his wealth where he believed he would then bask in it for many years to come.  However, he had no idea that his flesh would return to the dust and his soul would go into eternal damnation that very night.  All that he’d worked so hard to obtain, all that he placed such value on, would be enjoyed by another as these things would be lost to him forever.  Apparently having no desire of the Lord while he lived, this man would now pay the ultimate price of spending eternity without the Lord.  In eternal darkness and separation of the Father, perhaps he would then find need of the Lord but it would be to late. Like the great wealth he once valued so much and lost, this final hope in the Lord would also be lost to him forever.

While it is obviously not a sin to possess great wealth, it is a sin when you no longer ARE the POSSESSOR, but become the SERVANT of wealth, when you no longer control it, but IT controls YOU.  The word of God declares you cannot serve two masters, God and money.  This is not to say that we cannot have both God and money, but that we cannot SERVE both.  ONLY ONE can be our master, and that which we yield our heart; our thoughts; our vessels to; that which we place our hope and our faith in, will become our master.

Notice in this parable how the error of the rich man was NOT that he was wealthy, but that he laid up treasures for himself.  His great desire for riches led him to selfishness, greed, and obvious arrogance as he thought he’d eat, drink and be merry living off the fat of his wealth for many years to come.  His longing was not for the richness of the Lord, to receive the nonperishable gifts of the Lord.  His heart was not driven towards the Lord, but towards obtaining all that he could get for himself.  Thus, his LOVE for riches kept him from receiving and experiencing the LOVE of our Father.   Our Father loves to give good gifts to his children and has promised to supply all our needs, not our wants, but our needs.  Sometimes our wants are not what we NEED, and the Lord will not give those things that would ultimately steal our hearts away from Him.  But know there is coming a time when the Lord will pour great wealth upon his children, but only upon such who would not become the SERVANT to the wealth, but with the wealth WOULD SERVE.

Every believer has the potential to possess great wealth.  However, the wealth I speak of is not that of tangible substance.  It is a wealth far greater, which supercedes beyond that which we can physically touch and see.  It is the wealth of the heart.  A wealthy heart is one that is totally surrendered, totally yielded to the Lord.  A heart that is filled with mercy and compassion consumed by love for Him and for others.  A heart that seeks after the kingdom of God and His righteousness.  A heart that hungers and thirsts for his presence.  A heart that seeks to do good and flees from all manner of evil.  A heart that reaches out to the lost, to a hurting and lonely soul.  A heart that finds pleasure in giving, rather than receiving.  A heart that rejects bitterness and strife, hate and division. A heart that longs for peace and chases after it.  A heart that even while it’s broken, can still reach out in LOVE.  A heart filled with grace. A HEART LIKE HIS!  This my beloved brothers and sisters is TRUE wealth.  A priceless and most precious thing to possess, and TO GIVE!  There is nothing more valuable than a WEALTHY HEART, and “GREAT WEALTH OF THE HEART” begins with Loving the Lord our God with ALL our hearts, with ALL our soul, and with ALL our strength.  REACH my dear friends, for this kind of wealth and all else will follow.

I love you all so very much. Have a blessed week in the Lord and remember: Whatever we do, do ALL for the GLORY of GOD, who ALONE is worthy of the GLORY and the PRAISE!

May the peace of the Lord be with you today and always…….
