Statement Of Faith

This is the Statement Of Faith of New Hope Baptist Church in Eau Claire, WI, which I feel is very good.  All churches requesting membership must agree with this Statement Of Faith!

     1.  The Bible:

         We believe the Scriptures of the Old Testament and New Testament to be verbally

            inspired of God and inerrant in the original writing, and that they are the supreme

            and final authority in faith and life.  (II Timothy 3:16,17; II Peter 1:19-21)

2.     God:

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  (Exodus 20:2,3; Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 8:6)

3.     Creation:

We believe in God’s direct creation of the universe, without the use of pre-existent material, and apart from any process of evolution whatever as stated in the Genesis account.  (Genesis 1:1-31; Exodus 20:11; Colossians 1:16,17; Hebrews 11:3)

4.     Jesus Christ:

We believe that Jesus Christ existed eternally as the Son of God, was begotten of the Holy Spirit and born of Mary, a virgin.  He is true God and true man.  (Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:35; Galatians 4:4)

5.     Christ’s Atonement for Sin:

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to Scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.  (Isaiah 53:4-11; Romans 3:24,25; 4:5; 5:1,8,9; 6:23; II Corinthians 5:19-21)

6.     Christ’s Resurrection and Ascension:

We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His bodily ascension into heaven, and His present life there as High Priest and Advocate.  (Matthew 28:1-7; Acts 1:8-11; I Corinthians 15:4-9; Hebrews 4:14-16)

7.     The Holy Spirit:

We believe that the Holy Spirit baptizes, seals, and indwells every believer at the moment of salvation and that He empowers every believer for holy living.  We believe that the Holy Spirit bestows service gifts upon believers and that the sign gifts were restricted to the Apostolic period, which has expired.  (Ephesians 1:13; 4:11,12; I Corinthians 12:13; Hebrews 2:3,4: I Corinthians 13:8-13)

8.     Angels and Satan:

We believe angels are spirit beings who were created by God to worship Him and to carry out His bidding.  Angels minister specifically to believers as well as work among the nations of the world and unbelievers.  Some angels have remained true to their Creator while others (demons), lead by the angel Lucifer (Satan), have left their first estate and have chosen to oppose the work of God and the people of God.  The ultimate eternal destination of Satan and the demons is the Lake of Fire.  (Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 1:14; Ezekiel 28:11-15; Revelation 12:9; Matthew 25:41)

9.     Man:

We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also that spiritual death which is separation from God, that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are sinners in thought, in word, and in deed.  (Genesis 1:26,27; 3:1-6; Romans 5:12,19; 3:10-13; Titus 1:15,16)

    10.  Salvation:

           We believe that all who receive, by faith, the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of

       the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.  (John 1:12,13; 3:3-16; Acts

  16:31; Ephesians 2:8,9)

   11.  Security of the Believer:

      We believe in the “Eternal Security” of the believer, that it is impossible for one

        born into the family of God ever to be lost.  (John 6:39; 10:28-30; Romans

        8:35-39; Jude 1)

12.     Christ’s Return:

We believe in “that blessed hope”: the personal, pre-millennial, pre-tribulational, and imminent return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, when the Church will be “gathered together unto Him.”  (John 14:13-18; I Thessalonians 4:13-18;

I Corinthians 5:51-58)

13.     Israel:

We believe in the literal fulfillment of the prophecies and promises of the Scriptures, which foretell and assure the regeneration and restoration of Israel as a nation.  (Genesis 13:14-17; Jeremiah 16:14,15; 30:6-11; Romans 11)

14.The Resurrections:

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust: the everlasting blessedness of the saved with the Lord in Heaven and the everlasting punishment of the Los in Hell.  (Matthew 25:31-46; Luke 16:19-31; I Thessalonians 4:13-18;

Revelation 20:11-15; 21:1-8)

15.  The Church:

       We believe that a local New Testament Baptist Church is an organized body of

          believers immersed upon a credible confession of faith in Jesus Christ, having two

          offices (Pastor and Deacons), congregational in polity, autonomous in nature, and

           banded together in worship, for the observance of the ordinance, and the

              worldwide proclamation of the Gospel. We further believe in the church, which is

           Christ’s body, the spiritual organization consisting of all born again believers of

              the dispensation of Grace (Church Age).  (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:41,42;

              I Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:22,23; I Timothy 3; I Peter 5:1-3)

16.  Ordinances:

We believe that the Scriptural ordinances of the church are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper and are to be administered by the local church.  We believe that Baptism should be accomplished by immersion (one time backward) and should be administered to believers only as a testimony and a symbol of their belief in th death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  We believe that the Lord’s Supper is representative of the sacrifice Christ made on Calvary and should only be partaken of only by baptized believers to “show the Lord’s death till He come.”  (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:41-47;8:26-39; I Corinthians 11:23-28; Colossians 2:12)
